Chest Medicine Associates’ practice focuses on the health and function of lungs and respiratory systems. A healthy environment for patients and staff was key, so obtaining LEED certification was the best way to measure and quantify that goal. The Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design rating system focuses on all aspects of a facility from site selection, to construction materials and methods, to the operation and maintenance of a facility. This site had the benefit of being connected to the community with local eating, recreation, and transportation systems in place. We met requirements that reduced water use; optimized energy performance of the heating, cooling and ventilation systems; recycled the materials removed during demolition; reused existing materials that could be salvaged; used energy efficient lighting and occupancy sensors; and most importantly to CMA we used low VOC materials that minimize harmful off-gassing.
